Tutorial: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu INSPIRED Makeup

Are you sick of doing the stereotypical vampire or zombie look for Halloween? This is a fun and quirky look that I did for last year, and I got sooo many compliments on it. It definitely stands out from the crowd and focuses on having a big scary mouth and huge eyes. I have changed it slightly since last year for this tutorial but it is essentially the same thing. This is inspired by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu from her first album Moshi Moshi Harajuku, and she's a famous Japanese singer/ model/ blogger from Harajuku, a place well known for its quirky taste in fashion. WARNING: This is a very picture-heavy post. Without further ado, let's start the tutorial.

I used the Expert Face Brush to buff in my foundation, the Multi Brush for blush, Buffing brush for bronzer and Contour brush for highlight from Real Techniques. I used Bdellium Tools in 777 (Shadow) and 760 (Brow/ liner) for my eyes and lining my lips. I also used an ELF retractable lip brush to fill in my lips (Not shown above). 

For the hair, I simply grabbed some hair from either side of my head and twisted and twisted it so that it formed kind of a poop-shaped mountain bun thing, then secured it with a small elastic band and tied colourful striped bows to it. Remember to leave some hair out for your fringe.

Start with a clean, moisturized face, and apply your foundation and concealer. Concentrate most of your product on the cheeks and forehead as the lower part of your face will be covered with the lip makeup. Make sure to moisturize lips with an intensive lip balm too as your lips will be covered with concealer later, and may appear dry and flaky.

Outline the shape of the inner part of the lips with a light brown eyeliner pencil. You don't have to be accurate with this as it will be covered up later. Use the outside of your lips as a guideline. 

Outline the outer part of the lips with that same pencil.

Wipe off the excess lipbalm and apply concealer to completely blank out your lips.

Draw pointy teeth and fill it in with white eyeshadow or eyeliner. I used a baked shadow with a wet sponge applicator so it could be packed on strongly. This does not need to be precise as you will be outlining it with an eyeliner later. 

Outline the teeth, then the lips with black eyeliner. I used gel liner with a slanted liner brush as it is easier to control the thickness of the lines. 

Use a purple lipstick to fill in the lips, or if you don't have one like me, you can mix red lipstick with blue eyeshadow.

Now for the eyes. My eyebrows are naturally thick so I don't do anything to them apart from brushing an old mascara wand through them to neaten them. You may fill them in if you wish to but remember to keep it as natural as possible and minimally arched. Sweep a light beige eyeshadow all over the lids.

Place a caramel brown on the mobile lid (pink) and blend upwards. Define the eyes further by blending dark brown shadow in the outer corners (green). 

Add a cream coloured highlighting colour in the inner corners and undereye pouch of the eye (pink) and put some glitter on top. Blend the caramel shade used earlier in the area under the pouch (green). This may seem weird to you but it actually makes you appear more youthful. It is an increasingly popular trend in Asian countries as it gives you the appearance of younger looking eyes. In Korea, they call it "aegyo-sal" which means "eye smile" or "cute skin", as your eyes will look like they're always naturally squinting as they should when you smile. 

Tightline your eyes and curl your lashes. Apply your falsies. I used the falsies that Kyary created for Eyemazing, which are the exact same as the ones she wore in her album cover. Apply mascara only to the bottom lashes. Use eyeliner to cover up the eyelash glue and wing it out at the outer corners of your eyes. 

Apply a matte orange blush liberally to the apples of the cheeks and blend upwards towards your temples. Try to avoid smearing the lips when you apply blush to the cheek with the majority of the lip makeup. Contour the temples, forehead, cheekbones and chin with a matte bronzer for that small pointy face that Kyary has. 

Brush on highlighter on the bridge of the nose, forehead, and cheek bones. This makes a huge difference as it instantly makes you look more glowy and pretty. Your nose will appear taller and straighter and your cheekbones will stand out. If you suck at contouring your nose/ face, this is a much easier alternative. And you're done! Now it's time to camwhore ;)

I realized after I had removed my makeup that in all my pictures, my actual bottom lip had covered the drawn on lips so do note that you will have to draw your bottom lip a lot further out than you think you should. I didn't have bottom false lashes and have no idea how to convert my normal lashes into bottom lashes so I used mascara instead.
